Abstract

807,130. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. FOSTER, C. E. Jan. 21., 1957, No. 2121/57. Class 118 (2). A warning lamp at the rear of a vehicle, also fitted with stop lights is illuminated when the throttle is closed and is extinguished when either the throttle is opened or the brakes are applied to illuminate the stop lights. Stop lights 26 and a warning lamp 11 are connected respectively to the change-over contacts of a relay-switch 16. The lamp 11 may be in a casing with amber coloured window situated at the rear of a vehicle (as in Fig. 1, not shown). A flasher 17 is included in the circuit to the lamp 11. The relay-switch 16 is supplied via the ignition switch 14 and a micro-switch 15 which is operated by an arm 23 secured to a throttle control shaft 22 such that switch 15 is closed when pressure is removed from the vehicle accelerator pedal. As the relay-switch 16 is spring-biased to the position shown the lamp 11 lights when the accelerator is released and extinguishes when it is depressed. A switch 29 is closed when the brake pedal 27 is depressed and energizes the relay 25 to cause the switch 16 to change over and illuminate stop lamps 26, at the same time breaking the circuit to the warning lamp 11.
