March 30, 1927, Converting alternating and direct currents; transformers.-The anode and grid bias potentials of a wireless receiving apparatus are supplied from the filament battery, by connecting the latter to the primary 7 of a transformer, such as an induction coil, through a buzzer 9 located in the negative 'lead from the battery. The secondary 3 is connected through lead-tantalum or thermionic rectifiers 4 and through a smoothing circuit 21, 22 to a potentiometer 15 for supplying the anode potentials. Another potentiometer 18 is shunted across part of the potentiometer 15 so as to supply grid bias potentials. A fuse may be placed in series with the primary of the transformer.
