292,933. Hofmann, F., and Stegemann, W. June 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Mineral oils, purifying.-Oils originating from coal are refined by treatment with gaseous orliquid hydrofluoric acid, with or without the addition of metal halides or other refining agents, and optionally at higher temperatures or pressures, or both. In an example, a crude benzene is treated with 3 per cent hydrofluoric acid. The acid is removed by heating and the benzene is. distilled.
