Mineral oils; purifying. - High-boiling hydrocarbons are converted, almost entirely, into lowboiling hydrocarbons by treating with liquefied sulphurous acid to remove the unsaturated hydrocarbons, and then splitting with a small quantity, say 3 to 4 per cent, of aluminium chloride or a double compound thereof, and repeating the sulphurous acid and aluminium chloride treatment a number of times.
