Flexible-unjointed hinges. - In pivotal connections in which two parts oscillate relatively to one another and are also subject to substantial distortion in other directions, interposed linings are so arranged that the first part of any movement results in yielding of an elastic component while further movement causes sliding of a frictional component. In the pivotal connection shown in Fig. 3, the pin 7 and the socket 8 are separated by rubber 9 connected to a frictional band 10 which may be split at 11 and consists of a material such as asbestos having a high frictional coefficient. The rubber 9 may be vulcanized to a metal sleeve 12 adapted to be forced or clamped on to the pin 7. The frictional material may be let into the rubber.
