Abstract

291,018. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Medicines for internal use.-Two active substances, having opposite effects on the female sexual organs, are obtained from the anterior lobe of the hypophysis by extraction with organic liquids and with aqueous solvents respectively. When an organic solvent miscible with water is used, for instance acetone, the gland is extracted first with this and the residue then extracted with water, physiological salt solution, Ringer's solution. or the like. The separate extracts are each purified in the usual manner and that obtained by the use of the organic solvent may be freed from solvent in a vacuum and again dissolved in aqueous diethylin. A known process wherein the gland is extracted with alcohol diluted with water is also referred to. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) it is stated that when, using solvents immiscible with water, such as ether or ligroin, the gland may be treated simultaneously with the two solvents, and also that alcohol may be used in place of acetone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
