Abstract

290,351. Smith, W. S., and Mc- Lachlan, N. W. Feb. 10, 1927. Thermionic amplifiers.-To compensate for the effects of interelectrode capacity in a thermionic amplifier one or more compensating-valves 15, 15<1> are provided to the input of which potential variations at the output of the amplifier are applied and the output of which is coupled to the input of the amplifier. The Figure shows amplifying-valves 4, 4<1> coupled by an impedance 3 and condenser 19. The anode circuits of the compensating-valves 15, 15<1> contain non-inductive resistances 14, 14', and their anodes 16, 16<1> are coupled through condensers 21 to the grids of amplifying valves 1, 1<1>. The grids 18, 18' may be coupled through biassing batteries to the anodes 4, 4', or as shown through resistance 13, 13', the necessary bias being obtained from a battery 7A through resistances 12, 12<1>. The Provisional Specification describes the use of compensating-valves in an amplifier which is resistance-coupled at least in alternate stages.
