Abstract

290,318. Hornsey, J. W. Jan. 5, 1027. Extracting.-In a process for reducing iron ores, as described in Specification 284,040, the iron produced is freed from sulphur before its conversion into steel by mixing with the ore, before reduction, a small quantity of flux which combines with the sulphur. The flux used is lime in the proportion of about 5 per cent of the ore. If the ore contains metallic sulphides, the flux in the form of burnt lime is added with the coal or is added in the form of limestone to the ore before it enters the preheater.
