Abstract

531,473. Wet-separating. GREAVES, C. June 8, 1939, No. 16766. [Class 82 (ii)] In a process of wet-washing wherein a suspension of a finely divided substance in water is used for separating desired grades of different specific gravities, the substance used is prepared by combining metallic iron or iron alloys with a non-metallic element or elements such as oxygen, sulphur or silicon. The iron may be combined with oxygen at high temperature to form an oxide or with sulphur to form a sulphide. Alternatively the material used may be the bye-product of any process of production or manufacture of iron or steel such as hot working, forging, descaling or be prepared by treating iron wet at ordinary temperatures to form the oxide by rusting, whether it be a specific process of manufacturing or a bye-product in wet process for the manufacture of iron or steel.
