Abstract

289,989. Stevens, H. Feb. 26, 1927. Tension arrangements.-In tensioning chains or bands for driving overhead cam shafts in internal combustion engines &c., a curved blade spring 1 bears on the slack side of the chain and is flexed centrally by a spring 5 applied between its two ends, one 2 of which is fixed and the other 3 slides on the casing 4. Motion due to shipping of the chain is damped by a sliding rod 8 notched to engage the edge of the blade 1 and pressed by a spring 11 into frictional engagement with the casing. A strip 12 of wood, compressed fibre, &c. is arranged adjacent to the tight side of the chain to limit its whipping.
