Abstract

289,965. Williams, W. A. Feb. 7, 1927. Grant of Patent opposed. Latex, treating.-In the electro deposition of rubber or the like from latex, an electrolyte which will not readily cause coagulation, but will act as a self excitant between electrodes, is added to the latex and externally connected electrodes are introduced to effect deposition of rubber on the anode. Zinc oxide, sulphur, or the like may be added to the latex, which must be only feebly aJ.ka.line. In an example, to 20 cc. of latex preserved with ammonia, and having the alkalinity of a semi-normal solution of ammonia, is added 40 cc. of a solution of ammonium chloride containing 26 gms. of the chloride to 100 gms. of water. Electrodes consisting of a zinc anode, and a porous pot containing carbon and magnanese dioxdde as kathode are introduced and connected externally, whereupon rubber is deposited on the zinc.
