Abstract

352,604. Galvanic batteries. SOC. ITALIANA BATTERIE ELETTRICHE CELLINO, 4, Via Manzoni, Milan, Italy. May 2, 1930, No. 13582. Convention date, May 2, 1929. [Class 53.] Electrodes.-In an accumulator employing a zinc negative electrode, the latter is prepared by depositing zinc electrolytically from a bath containing an alkali silicate. The bath, which is subjected to a preliminary treatment before being used, consists of sulphuric or other acid, an alkali silicate such as sodium silicate, and a salt of mercury such as the sulphate. Before the bath is used for the deposition of zinc on to supports which are to form the negative electrodes of the accumulator, zinc anodes and lead cathodes are immersed in the bath and a current passed through the solution for some hours to dissolve the zinc. The liquid is then used to deposit zinc electrolytically on to the negative electrodes which may consist of lead sheets. The plated electrodes may be used in an accumulator having lead or lead peroxide positive electrodes and an electrolyte of sulphuric acid. Specification 241,898, [Class 53, Galvanic batteries], is referred to.
