Abstract

265,141. Oesterreichische Chemische Werke Ges. Jan. 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Persulphuric acid and its soluble salts, obtaining.-A current strength of over 200 amps. per litre of anolyte is employed. In an example, a solution containing 500 grams H2 SO4, per litre is electrolysed in a diaphragm cell having a platinum anode and a lead cathode at a temperature of 20-21‹ with a current strength of 400 amps per litre. The diaphragm may be of porcelain or of a combination of fabrics with artificial resin, or of " gurocel," i.e. a composition of diatomacea slightly burned with suitable binding agents. For the production of salts the electrolyte may contain 20 per cent ammonium sulphate, 2 per cent sulphuric acid, and 7.5 per cent potassium sulphate, the temperature being 30-35‹ C. The solution is cooled after withdrawal from the cell for separation of the salts.
