510,429. Electrolytic production of per-salts. TRINIUS, C., and GIESLER. H., (trading as GIESLER & TRINIUS). Jan. 17, 1939, No. 1657. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1938. [Class 41] In the electrolytic production of per-salts, e.g. ammonium persulphate from ammonium bisulphate solutions, the electrolyte is continuously passed through the space between the anode, which may form the cell wall, and a cathode disposed within the anode at a distance not exceeding 5 mm. The cathode is wrapped round with filaments or threads of non-conductive fibres ; no diaphragm is employed. The current concentration should be about 2,000 amps. per lit. Both electrodes are made hollow for the passage of cooling fluid. The cathode wrapping is preferably of artificial fibres which are as long as possible, lie in one direction, and do not felt e.g. slag wool or glass wool; its thickness, even in strongly acid solution, is less than 3 mm.
