509,175. Electrolytic production of persulphates and hydrogen peroxide. TENNANT, W. J. (Henkel & Cie., Ges.). April 6, 1938, No. 10544. [Class 41] A solution containing ammonium sulphate and free sulphuric acid is oxidized in a single compartment electrolytic cell and the product is treated to decompose the persulphate and liberate hydrogen peroxide ; the residua] solution is then passed first through the cathode space and then through the anode space of one or more electrolytic cells for the removal of metallic impurities and Caro's acid and is finally returned to the single compartment cell for renewed oxidation. In the purifying cell shown the electrolyte enters the cathode space at C, passes by holes 5 at the bottom of a cylindrical diaphragm 2 to the anode space and leaves at 3. The cathode 6 is provided with apertures 8.
