Abstract

289,607. Harkin, J. P. March 21, 1927. Moulding rubber draining-boards.- Draining- boards for sinks are made of moulded rubber in a moulding and vulcanizing press. Fig. 2 shows a pair of discs with interchangeable well-forming elements 22, 23, adapted to register by means of dowel pins 28 to form a draining board having an upstanding flange 37 on one side and end, a downwardly-projecting flange 33 on the other side and end, and a base 50 with grooves leading to a central draining-well. A liquid-retaining ridge 27<a> may be provided on one or both of the upper surfaces not furnished with the flange 37. In a modified construction the upper flanges 37 are attached to the board after manufacture, the base of the board being grooved along three sides during moulding to facilitate the subsequent attachment of one back flange and one selected side flange in accordance with the design of producing either a right-hand or left-hand board. The dies also are recessed to produce flanges 33 on all four sides of the board, those not being required in any particular instance being filled by stoppieces. Fig. 9 illustrates a mould for forming at will, right-hand, left-hand, or central-well boards with integral flanges. By interchanging the member 50 with the members 40 and 42, the upstanding flange of the board can be transferred to the other side, while by replacing the member 50 by another pair of members 40, 42 a larger central-well board is produced.
