Abstract

Buttons, buckles, and like flat articles are produced by forming a pattern of non-hardened casein, combining it under pressure and heat with a differently coloured plate of unhardened artificial horn, and subsequently hardening both. The casein mass may be pressed on to an engraved die plate in the form of a plate or it may be inserted in the grooves in the form of powder or a material that has been rendered plastic and subsequently granulated. Excess material is removed leaving the grooves filled with casein. The unhardened plate of artificial horn is then pressed on. Either the plate or the pattern or both may be of two or more colours.
