Abstract
526,381. Moulding windows in instrument face plates &c. LINES BROS., Ltd., and MANSOUR, J. N. March 14, 1939, No. 8217. [Class 87 (ii)] The window of an article, such as the face plate of an instrument, is formed within an opening in the article fron a mass of transparent plasti material, the article consti tuting part of the mould in which the window is formed and the window when pro duced forming an integra structure with the article In the construction shown a face plate 1 with an arcuate opening is placed between two dies 2, 3 and a transparent window 5 is formed by injection moulding. The die 2 is formed with a groove 4 to mould a flange around one face of the window and for the opposite face the opening in the plate 1 is countersunk, so that the window 5 is secured in the plate. The window may be secured by a countersinking of the edges of the opening on each face of the plate, or it may be moulded with a continuous or interrupted flange or bead around it in each face. The edges of the window may be flush with the plate ; the outer surface of the window may be shaped for example, cylindrically or spherically. Projections are provided on the die 3 to mould graduations on the window into which black or colouring matter may be rubbed.
