Hanks, treating.-In a circular machine for the treatment of skeins comprising a fixed mushroom framework 1, Fig. 1, covering a rotary skein-carrying frame 2, the drying rollers 68 are carried by the fixed frame, the rotary frame supporting the skein-carrying rollers 5 which are rotated only when in position above the vats, each roller 68 being loosely mounted in a stirrup 69 to compersate for inequalities in the skein surface and pressed into contact with the roller 5 when in the working position by linkwork 70, 70<1>, 81, 74, 80, 77 loaded at 79. The main rollers 5 of the skein-holding heads are geared together and motion is transmitted to only one of them by gearing 18, 19, 7, 6<1>, 6 form the driving shaft 16, a circular cam 64 maintaining each roller disconnected from its driving gear except when in the working position above the vats, the frame 2 being rotated intermittently with regulated stops between displacements.
