June 10, 1919, Jigger machines. - Between the large driving-roller and the bottom roller of jigger dyeing- apparatus a cloth-stretching roller is provided at each side of the machine and is driven against the cloth from the large roller at the other side of the machine. Between the cloth rollers b, b<1> and bottom guiderollers c, c' in the trough d are arranged the cloth-expanding rollers a, a'. The rollers b, b<1> are driven alternately from a shaft f through bevel-wheels f<1>, h<1>, f<2>, k<1>. Clutches l, m on the shafts h, k of the rollers b, b<1> each have two clutch members, those on one side l<1>, m<1> serving to engage the wheels h<1>, k<1> to drive the shafts, and those on the other side l<2>, m<2> serving to engage the shaft with clutch members p<1>, q<1> at the sides of chain-wheels p, q respectively. The chain-wheels p, q connect by chains p<2>, q<2> with chain-wheels p<3>, q<3> on the shafts of the rollers a<1>, a. The arrangement is such that, when the roller b is being driven, its chain-wheel is free, and the roller b<1>, being pulled around by the cloth, drives its chain-wheel to turn the expanding-roller a against the cloth. Meanwhile the roller a<1> acts as a guide-roller. The driving of the expanding-rollers also reduces the braking action required for the non-driven cloth roller.
