Alloys.-A retractory iron alloy free from selfhardening properties contains 12-20 per cent. of nickel, 16.20 per cent. of chromium, 0.3-3 per cent. of silicon, and up to 1 per cent. of carbon, the silicon content being at least 2.5 times the carbon content, and the chromium and silicon together being not less than 19 per cent. About 1 per cent of manganese may be added. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 232,656.
