Abstract

287,385. Byrde, E. A. Aug. 2, 1927. Rail joints are secured by fishplates 2 and a base-plate 5 held near each end by clamps 6 situate beyond the fishplates. The fishplates 2 are short ones secured by only two fish bolts 3 while the clamps are secured to the rails and base-plate by bolts 7, 8. The base-plate is a rolled T-section similar to the web and flange of the rails, and may comprise a short inverted length of rail which may have the head removed, and abuts the adjacent sleepers 11. The bolts 3. 7 may be arranged to suit the usual spacing of the holes in the rail ends. The central parts of the clamps mav be sloped to engage the rail base and base-plate head with a wedging action.
