Abstract
198,809. Davis, C. S. March 15, 1922. Rail joints; sleepers, metal, and securing rails thereto.-Rails 16 are secured to sleepers 14 by fishplates 24 engaging the rail and sleeper, the fishplates being secured to the sleeper by means lying wholly beneath the surface of the sleeper. Each fishplate has a series of loops 28 and hooks 29 entering apertures 22, 23 in the sleeper, the loops being secured by split pins 35, and also has a series of pins 32 entering the holes in the rail ends. Where the rails are not perforated, the pins 32 are omitted and the fishplates may engage only the rail flange. The sleepers 14 may be used throughout the track, but at the joints, which are staggered, each sleeper has a widened end 21 or three sleepers of even sizo are placed side by side. The sleepers are of T-section with an opening 34 in the web under each rail seat, the web having secured thereto at each end a thrust member 40 with spaced flanges 42. Specification 6364/00 is referred to.
