Abstract

703,598. Railway rail joints. HENSON, C. E. June 11, 1952, No. 14733/52. Class 104 (2) In a rail joint in which the scarfed ends of rails 10 are connected together by means of a base plate 17 having an integral fishplate 21 for engagement with one side of the rails 10 and a separable fishplate 22 engaging the other side of the rail 10 and abutting a longitudinal flange 28 rising from the baseplate 17 and in which securing bolts 31 pass through registering openings in the fishplates 21, 22 and rail 10 the bolts 31 engage threaded openings 30 in the fishplate 22 and countersunk holes 29 in fishplate 21 so that the bolt heads are level with the fishplate surfaces. Locking washers 32 are provided at the bottom of the holes 29. As shown in Fig. 3 the opposing inner faces of the rail webs 12 are concave. The webs 12 Fig. 5 (not shown) are thickened adjacent the rail joint. The upper edges 23 of the fishplates are bevelled and engage the underside of the rail head. The base plate is notched at 19 to receive anchoring spikes 20.
