Abstract
280,411. Kings Patent Agency, Ltd., (Rogers, A. W.). Feb. 11, 1927. Rail sections ; chair keys ; rail joints; sleepers, composite ; chairs, securing to sleepers ; chairs with adjustable jaws. - T-head rails 1 with tapered webs 2 are secured in chairs 6, Fig. 5, or sleeve fishplates 20, Fig. 4, by keys 12, 22 held in position by tapered plugs 19, 25 tapped into recesses in the abutting faces of the key and the chair or fishplate. The recess spacing may be arranged to give. a vernier adjustment. The rail head has grooves'3 receiving beads 13, 23 on the keys. The abutting faces of the chairs and keys converge upwardly to retain the rail and keys in place. The chair 6 is of horse-shoe shape and has a central rib 10 to anchor it in the concrete sleeper which has flat ends 7 and an arched portion 8, Fig. 1, and is reinforced by hook-ended round metal bars 5. The keys are of cast steel and the inner key is parallel while the outer key is tapered, the inner key having only one position to receive a plug 19. The keys 22 are driven in opposite directions and have concave ends. The plugs are square and are dipped in tar and the unoccupied triangular recesses are filled with grease.
