Abstract

Sleepers, metal and composite; sleepers, securing rails to.-Rails are secured by clamps and keys to sleepers comprising spaced I-beams with chair plates over blocks of concrete. The beams 1, Fig. 2, are riveted to plates 2, which retain concrete blocks 3 ; bars 5 may also be used, riveted to the beams 1. The rails are secured by clamps 9 having shoulders 15 resting on the plate 2. These clamps are embedded in soft concrete in sockets 8, one socket receiving a key 14, preferably roughened or toothed. A brace clamp 16, Fig. 6, may be used, and preferably on curves, with a central pin 17, shoulders 19, and extension 22. At joints 1, the fish-plates are notched to receive the clamps.
