Abstract
111,118. Balfour, E. L. D. B. Aug. 10, 1916. Spikes for securing rails to sleepers are provided with a succession of notches 4, 6, 16 on one side of the shank and a succession of shoulders 9, 10 on the other side. The shank is plain for some distance beneath the head, and is formed with a chisel-shaped point so arranged as to cause the spike to bend on entering the sleeper, Fig. 3.
