287,286. Abel, A. C. Feb. 7, 1927. Steering-mechanism. - An adjustable damper for motorcycle &c. steering-mechanism, vehicle springs, &c. comprises a rotatable brake drum 2, and a bar 1 fixed to the vehicle frame and secured to a disc 3 carrying brake shoes 5, which are expanded by means of a wedge 7 adapted to ride up inclined faces 8 on the brake shoes 5. The wedge 7 carries a screwed pin 9 engaging a tapped hole in the boss 10 of a hand-wheel 11, the boss 10 having a groove to receive the bifurcated end of the bar 1, which thus prevents axial movement of the. boss. The wheel 11 is locked in the adjusted position by a spring-pressed ball or plunger 13<a> adapted to engage one of a series of recesses in a collar 12 on the boss 10.
