Abstract

286,492. Elliott, T. H., and Collins, W. C. April 19, 1927. Axle stops 1, comprising vertically movable stops sliding against spring action on impact of the vehicle, pass through slots in a base plate 3 and are carried by levers 5, Fig. 2, fulcrummed at 6 below the plate. A pair of stops and their levers are secured to a member 9 connected by rods 11 with springs 12'. The levers 5 are extended so as to be engaged by the axles of a released vehicle to re-set the stops. The stops are lowered by a handle on shaft 6, and a weight 13 may be provided to assist the handle. In a modification, Fig. 5, two pairs of spaced stops are coupled by levers 15 and a rod 17 and are operated bv a handle 8 so that one set is operative when the other set is inoperative. Rollers 18 in the guide members engage the stops.
