Abstract

286,472. Minder, W. March 22, 1927. Tunnels.-In a shoring or lining unit for mine adits &c. comprising three arcuate ferro-concrete members forming a three-hinged arch, with cushioning material between their engaging ends, these ends are respectively bevelled and recessed so as each to present two mutually inclined plane surfaces, the cushioning material being placed in similarly inclined layers. The members may be rectangular, or they may have their outer edges bevelled, and they have steel sheaths. The cap joints may comprise soft wood &c. cushioning material 3, Fig. 3, and packing 5, with longitudinal steel &c. members 4 connecting adjacent units. The base joints may contain cushioning wood &c. 3 alone or together with softer packing wood 5 and bricks or tiles 9, Fig. 6, or bricks &c. 9 and sand &c. 8, Fig. 7; the wood &c. 3 may extend through several units or it may be omitted. Guides are provided to prevent outward movement of the side members 1. and the base members 2 diminish in cross section towards their middle.
