Water paints, distempers, and the like, applied with the help of water, have added thereto a wetting-out or dispersing agent consisting of sulphonic acids derived from formaldehyde-naphthalene or formaldehyde-phenol condensation products, the alkylnapthalene sulphonic acids, the substances prepared from mineral oil and isopropyl alcohol sulphonated according to Specification 274,611, [Class 91, Oils &c.], ligninsulphonic acid, sulphonated naphthenic acids, and sulphonated higher fatty acids. 0.1 to 1.0 per cent of the substance is added either to the solid colour or to the water to be, used therewith. According to the. Provisional Specification, alkylnaphthene sulphonic acid, taurogallic acid, and the like may be used.
