Abstract

517,686. Chromated colloid processes. HULL FISH MEAL & OIL CO., Ltd., and DREY, N. Aug. 4, 1938, No. 23033. [Class 98 (ii)] In order to improve the melting and. flowing properties of the fish glue used for coating the metal plates in photoengraving processes, long chain aliphatic or aliphatic-aromatic compounds or hydrogenated polycyclic aromatic compounds containing at least one sulphonic acid group but no free carboxylic acid group are added before or after treatment of the glue with chromic acid. The salts of the sulphonated compounds may be used as well as the free sulphonic acids. In examples, the cyclohexylamine salt of sulphonated alcohols derived from coconut oil and the triethanolamine salt of sulphonated oleyl alcohol are added to fish glue. The triethanolamine salt of sulphonated dodecyl alchol and sulphonated cetyl alcohol and decahydronaphthalene are mentioned.
