Abstract

285,773. Murray, W. Nov. 22, 1927. Magnesium lamps.-A portable magnesium flashlight appa.ratus comprises a box or casing formed by two approximately equally-sized parts a, b hinged detachably along one edge e, c and adapted to be secured by a spring catch d when in the closed position. The lower part a consists of a closed chamber containing a battery f and having a top panel e fitted with grooved guides g in which a flange j on the cardboard shell of the magnesium cartridge j is held by the pressing of spring-contacts. h against terminals i of the cartridge fuse wire k. The panel e also carries two terminals l, l<1> the terminal l being connected to one spring contact h and the terminal l<1> to one battery plate m. The other spring contact h is connected to the other battery plate m. The upper part b contains a spring push switch n arranged between two terminals o which are connected by a dual cable p to the terminals l, l<1>. Fig. 5 shows a suitable hinge for connecting the parts a, b so as to allow the parts b to be removed to a suitable distance when the cartridge is to be fired. The hinge comprises arcuate tongues r on the part b fitting into slotted plates s on the part a.
