Magnesium lamps.-An electrically ignited magnesium flash lamp and an electric incandescent bulb lamp mounted on the door c of a box a are controlled by a single hand switch k. The box a contains a battery b the terminals of which engage terminals h, i on the top of the box. The terminal h is connected through one lead of a 3-way cable to a terminal k<1> in the hand switch. On pressing a thumb push l in the hand switch against the resistance of a spring l<1> a contact member l<2> connects the terminal k<1> with a terminal k<2> which is connected through a second lead in the cable j and contacting terminals m, n on the box and door to one terminal of the lamp bulb o. The other terminal of the lamp bulb is connected to the terminal i. A spring catch p holds the contact member l<2> bridging the terminals k<1>, k<2> while the camera is focussed. On pressing a thumb-push v in the hand switch the spring catch p is moved to release the contact member l<2> and a contact member v<2> bridges the terminal k<1> and a terminal v<1> which is connected through the third lead in the cable j and contacting terminals w, x on the box and door to one of two spring contacts u by which the base s of a magnesium cartridge r is secured against guides t on the door. The other contact u is connected through a wire y of the terminals i. The terminals of the fuse wire in the cartridge contact with the spring contacts u. The box is fitted with a strap q to facilitate its attachment to a camera or other support. The cartridge r has a divergent cardboard casing fitted with a loose paper cover.
