Abstract
285,238. Lees, A. Jan. 27, 1927. Lift valves.-A selfgrinding and centering screw-down valve comprises a hollow-ended spindle O, an external floating compression chamber C, an internal compression spring D, and a loose roundended and flanged central guiding and centering pin P, as shown, and the parts are secured together in sliding connection by means such as screwed ring C<3>. The valve member S is connected to the member C by a slide-in flange S<2>, and is provided with a suitable face S<3> to make a tight joint with a corresponding face B<3> on the cover B<1> when the valve is fully open. In the closing movement of the valve the compression chamber C and valve member S rotate with the spindle 0 by reason of the engagement of ribs C' with slots in the end of the valve spindle; the valve member therefore rotates in contact with its seating S<1>, whilst the spring D is being further compressed, until the end of the spindle jams against the central roundended pin P, when the valve member is forced tightly against its seating S'.
