Abstract
284,774. Davis, N. R., Burch, C. R., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Nov. 3, 1926. Cores for cables.-A fluid-cooled conductor, to be used for the inductance of a coreless induction furnace is formed with a duct throughout its length for the passage of the cooling fluid. and this duct is disposed at or near one side of the conductor in order to leave an uninterrupted section of conductor near the other side through which the current flow can be concentrated. The conductor may be a copper strip or bar 10 of rectangular section wound on edge, and a square copper tube 15 is soldered to the edge of the strip which is remote from the melting-space of the furnace. The duct may also be formed by milling, or otherwise producing, a groove in one side of the strip or bar and closing the mouth of the groove by means of a cover or ribbon soldered or brazed to the edges.
