Abstract
274,086. Schuchmacher, O. July 6, 1927. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 7, 1927]. Supplying and controlling consuming devices.-In arc welding systems employing pulsating direct current, inductive resistances are used wound upon iron cores which are permanent magnets arranged so that their magnetic, circuits are completely closed. Induction resistances as shown in Fig. 2 are employed with 2 to 3 m.m. electrodes, each of four series-connected coils 3 - - 6 being wound upon a core of permanently magnetized iron wires of high permeability and insulated therefrom by a fire-proof jacket 7 and flanges 8. The preferred per cent alloy content of the iron is C 0.05 to 0.2, Mn 0.4 to 1.2, Cn 0.05 to 0.15, Si traces to 0.05. The magnetic circuits are. completed by end plates. The coil 3 may be cut out by a switch 10 and the coils 5, 6 are tapped to terminals with which the electrode lead may be optionally connected. For electrodes of 4 to 6 m.m. two resistances are used in parallel arranged as in Fig. 4, the first two coils of each being combined and placed near the generator and the remaining coils combined at the welding point. For outside work a motorgenerator unit may be enclosed and combined with the first section of resistances and a fan for cooling purposes.
