Abstract
284,533. Hogner, E. G. E. June 20, 1927. Pencil holders.- Relates to pencil holders of the kind in which the lead propeller 8 is slidable in a longitudinally-slotted sleeve 3, and engages with a screw - threaded tube 2 and a guidemember. 9 slidable within limits in the sleeve 3, the arrangement being such that within limits in the forward movement, a cam 11 on the propeller engages a slot 10 in the guide-member to disengage the propeller from the tube 2 and permit it to be drawn out longitudinally. The guide-member 9 is provided with a projection 12 extending through a slot in the sleeve 3 and is adapted when drawn out by the sleeve, to engage a stop 14 before the sleeve reaches its limit of movement. The guide is thus moved downwardly relatively to the sleeve to cause the disengagement of the lead propeller and the slot, and to bring the propeller and tube 2 into engagement again. When the sleeve is pushed back into the casing, the guide is returned to correct position by the engagement of its lower end, which projects through an aperture in the end of the sleeve, with the tapered end of the tube 2. In order to prevent the propeller 8 from engaging the slot 10 except when in the innermost position, the well of the guidemember is bent inwards slightly at 16, and, to permit the guide to yield when the propeller passes, the bottom is slotted, so dividing the projection 12 into two parts. A magazine tuba 4 is carried eccentrically by the tube 2 and is provided with a, pinion 5 engaging teeth on the inner wall of the outer casing 1, so that by rotation of the tube 2 any of the leads in the magazine can be brought into central position in the outer casing.
