Abstract
202,325. Druseidt, P. Aug. 14, 1922, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Pencil-holders.-In a pencil-holder of the kind in which a rod is longitudinally slidable in the holder to propel the lead over a predetermined distance, the rod is connected to a cap slidably mounted at the rear end of the holder, and is bent to pass through a slot in the holder for the purpose of limiting the longitudinal movement. As shown in Fig. 1, the end of the rod 3 is bent to pass through a slot 1<a> in the holder 1 into a hollow 4a formed in the cap 4. The rod is also bent to form an abutment 7 which is adapted to be held by the resiliency of the rod in engagement with one of a pair of indentations in the holder, the indentations serving to hold the rod in projected or retracted position. The shape of the indentations is such that greater force is necessary to move the rod backwards than forwards. The extension 2 is adapted to screw into the part 1 to provide for fine adjustment of the lead. In a modification, the end of the rod passes through an aperture in a cap slidable within the end of the holder before entering the slot 1<a>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes pencil-holders in which the parts 2, 3, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), are frictionally held against displacement by spring tongues 10 on the part 3. A lead-holding tube 11 is mounted in the part 3 and is formed with a. spring tongue 12 for gripping the lead. The tube is formed from a. strip of material provided with the tongues 12 at the correct distances apart, and, below the tongues, with holes to enable the strip, after having been drawn into tubular form, to be broken into.pieces of the correct length. The propeller-rod 4. which is bent at its rear end 5 to pass through the slot 6 into a groove in the external cap 7, is provided with a springy extension 8 adapted to snap into a recess 2a in the part 2 to hold the lead in the forward position. In a modification, the part 5 passes through an aperture in an internal cap into a slot in the part 2, and the extension 8 is adapted to engage a hole in the casing. In another modification, the part 5 passes through a slot in a tube inserted in the end of the part 2 and engages the interior wall of an external cap, and the part 8 is adapted to spring under the end of the tube. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
