Abstract
283,790. Ellor, J. E. June 21, 1927. Disc-engine type; valves, distributing and cutoff; driving pumps, blowers, and exhausters.-A rotary pump, engine or the like having a spheroconical working chamber wherein move sector shaped blades 3 which are carried by a shaft 5 and which engage a slotted annular disc 4 rotating about an axis inclined to the shaft, is provided with means for variably bye-passing fluid from the working chamber back to the suction chamber. As shown, the bye-passing is effected by opening valves 13 in the conical walls; they are actuated by cams 16 which are manually operated by a connection to a yoke 18. The annular disc 4 is guided in a groove 11 formed in the spherical portion 1 of the working cham. ber. The blades 3 are slightly concave so as to maintain a seal with the slot in the annular disc whatever the angular position of the line of contact; hardened steel inserts are fitted in the slot. The device may be used as a compressor for supercharging internal-combustion engines control of the pressure being obtained by opening or closing the byepass valves 13. The shaft may be driven through gearing 21, 22.
