Abstract

283,636. Boyce, R. D. Oct. 13, 1926. Pump-actuating mechanism.-In a swash-plate compressor as in Specification 170,786, the ball- and-socket connection between the swash plate and the pistons is discarded, and the pistons are forced towards the plate by conical springs 30, fitting over the conically-ended pistons. Each cylinder boring has a stud 37, which may be screwed in to retain the piston in the cylinder whilst putting up or taking down the pump. The rollers 15 which actuate the swash plate have spherical surfaces, engaging a groove 20 with line contact, and are set so that two rollers run in the middle of the groove, whilst the other two engage its outer and inner parts, as shown. Inlet and outlet valves for each cylinder are carried in the cover plate 40, and communicate respectively with the inlet opening and the discharge space 43. A ball bearing 26 takes the thrust of the flywheel 14, and the ends 35 of the pistons engaging the swash plate are dome shaped.
