Compound fabrics.- A loose sock for boots comprises a thin layer of sponge rubber B which has on both sides a smooth, imperforate skin A, A' formed in baking or curing the sponge rubber. Also secured to the upper side of the rubber is a layer D of felt, compressed cork, or a fabric of which the fibres or hairs are torn or brushed up. A compound sheet of material from which the socks are cut is produced by spreading the rubber, before curing, on a sheet of the fabric or felt, and then baking or curing the rubber.
