Abstract

281,783. Canadian-American Machinery Co., Ltd., (Toronto Type Foundry Co., Ltd.). Sept. 13, 1926. Delivery apparatus.-A sheet-folding machine having parallel and cross-folding sets either of the budding or knife type or both, is adapted to deliver the sheets from any particular folder direct to a single delivery device which is fixed in one position relatively to the machine. As shown in Figs. 1, 4 and 5, the sheets pass from a feed-table 2 through buckling folders 5 ,6, 7 to a pivoted feed unit; comprising a guide 13, Fig. 4, and feed rolls 14, 15, which according to its position feeds the sheet either to a delivery belt 1 or to a cross-feeder 11 directing the sheet to a cross-feeder 16. From the folder 16, the sheet enters a feed unit, Fig. 5, comprising rolls 23, 24 and guides 21, 22, which is pivoted at 26 so as to direct the sheets either to the delivery belt 1 or to a cross-feeder 20, and can be secured in either postion by a bolt entering holes 28, 29 in the unit and framing respectively. The sheet is directed upwardly from the feeder 20 by guides 39 to the last cross-folder 36 from which the sheet issues through guides 40 on to the belt 1. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 9, the belt 1 is arranged parallel to and extends beneath the feed-table 2, in contrast to the previous arrangement in which the belt is at right angles to the feed-table. By this means, if a sheet has to receive one fold only, it may be delivered to the belt 1 through the stop plate 7 by removing the stop 7 as described in Specification 234,126. If the sheets pass through the folders 5, 6, 7 they may be directed to the cross feeder 11 by a guide 40 or the guide may be removed and the sheets allowed to pass between rolls 14<11>, 15<11> on to the belt 1. The guide 40 may be replaced by a pivoted two-way deflector. In the application of the invention to a machine employing both buckling and knife. foldlers, Figs. 10 and 11, the folders 5, 6, 7 and belt 1 are arranged as in Fig. 9, and the sheet after having received its parallel folds, proceeds on to the table 43 where it is cross-folded by the knife 44. After this fold, the sheet passes between rolls 45, 46 and can be directed either into a buckling folder 56 by means of a fixed guide 58 and pivoted guide 57, or into a blade folder 49 by pivoting away the guide 57 and moving a pivoted guide 47 into position as shown in Fig. 11, or it can be allowed to fall on to the belt 1 by moving both pivoted guides 47, 57 to their inoperative positions. The folded sheet passes direct to the belt 1 from either of the folders 49, 56. Any buckling folder may be rendered inoperative, if desired, by means of a deflector in the usual way.
