Abstract

232,626. Spiess, G. April 19, 1924, [Con vention date]. Folding paper.-In a sheetfolding machine employing buckling folders for imparting three or more cross folds to the sheet, the first two folders are arranged so that when the sheet has been folded twice, the half of the sheet which was leading when the sheet was fed into the machine is on the inside of the folded' sheet. The sheets are aligned against a side bar 5 on a table 3 by parallel rollers 4, and are fed by rollers 6, 7 to the first folder, comprising a buckling plate 8 and folding rollers 7, 9. From the first folder, the sheet is carried down between guides 10 until it abuts against a stop and is then forwarded in a horizontal direction to the rollers 11, 12, 14 and buckling plate 13 comprising the second folder which folds the original leading end of the sheet into the inside of the folded sheet. The sheet passes horizontally between guides 15 'to a stop and is then moved vertically to the third folder 16 - - 19, which is situated at the same side of the machine as the second folder and forwards the sheet to horizontal guides 20 below the feed table 3. From the guides 20 the sheet is carried in a direction opposite to the feed direction to the fourth folder 21 - - 24, from which the folded sheet is delivered by rollers 25 to a conveyer 26. In a modification, the sheet may be delivered from the fourth folder either in the direction of feed or in the opposite direc- 'tion. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the third folder may be arranged to deliver the sheet in a direction away from the guides, in which case the fourth folder will not be situated directly beneath the feed table, but will be displaced laterally thereof. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
