Abstract

281,484. Coventry Climax Engines, Ltd., and W'ooddisse, J. T. Dec. 21, 1926. Cylinders, cooling, heads and construction of, materials for, and arrangement of igniters in.- A detachable cylinder head comprises upper and lower members 8, 3 of sheet metal,-e.g. pressed steel,-which are welded together at their edges 9 and separated by spacing members 4. The member 3, extends the whole length of the cylinder head, and is recessed at 2 to form the combustion chambers and the members 4 may be in the form of a cast iron frame which surrounds each combustion chamber and has holes 7 for the holding down bolts and horizontal holes for the passage of cooling water. Sparking plugs are screwed into sectors 10 which are stiffened by tubes 11 and welded to the member 8: alternatively, a tube may simply pass through holes in and be welded to the members 8, 3. The member 8 is pressed with a riser 14 for the cooling water. The Provisional Specification describes a member 3 formed of separate pieces for each combustion chamber welded together.
