Abstract

281,136. Schmidt, J. Feb. 14, 1927. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Affixing by adhesives. The corner flaps t<1>, Fig. 4, of a cardboard box are secured to the sides t<2> by glue and the adhesion of the glue-connected surfaces is ensured by piercing them with studs o<1>, Fig. 2, provided over the entire surface of a lower presser block o, the flap of the folded corner being placed on the blocks o and the flap and side being then pressed together by a movable upper presser block m arranged above the block o; the studs are shorter than the two thicknesses of cardboard so that the outer surface of the side remains uninjured. As shown, a pair of presser blocks o are adjustable carried at opposite sides of the machine standard d and the upper blocks m are carried by slides g mounted in a bracket u and are moved downwards against the action of springs v by pedals j connected to toggle levers e, f pivoted to the slides g and to brackets b adjustably mounted on the standard d. The flaps may be glued by passing them over a roller q disposed in a heated glue pot p, vertical rollers s adjustable along the sides of the pot forming a guide for the edge of the flap; a pair of glue pots are mounted at opposite sides of the machine between the lower presser blocks o. The flaps and sides may be secured together by interposed paper strips glued on both sides in which case the glue pots are replaced by means for feeding, moistening, and severing the strip.
