Abstract

936,330. Paper bags. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. April 24, 1962, No. 15608/62. Class 94(2). [Also in Group XXX] Before a sealing tape 134, Fig. 3, is applied to seal the ends of bags 76, Fig. 11, carried on a conveyer with their ends directed to one side of the conveyer, the spacing between the bags is reduced so that, when the tape is subsequently cut between the bags, the wastage of tape is reduced. In the machine illustrated the closer spacing is effected by delivering the bags from a conveyer 94, 98, Fig. 2a, on to a slower pusher conveyer, 104, Fig. 1b. The bags are delivered to the slower conveyer over a plate 126 formed with an inclined portion 128 which enables the bags to be overlapped, as indicated in Fig. 12, at their wider bottoms 52, Fig. 11. The tape 134 is fed through grooving rollers 138, Fig. 3, and over a glue-applying wheel 148 to a position between pressing rollers 154, 156 where it underlies the bags with one margin of the tape extending upwardly, as indicated in Fig. 29, adjacent the bottom edge 82 of the bag, to direct a stream of adhesive from a nozzle 158 into the opening of the bag. The tape is then folded over the end of the bag by folding rollers and guides 166, 160. A further stripe of adhesive 212, Fig. 19, is then added adjacent the tape and the tape end is folded over on to this by folding guides 216, 218. The bags, which are intended for use as dust bags in vacuum cleaners, have stiff cardboard ends 76, Fig. 11, carried by a pusher conveyer 60, Fig. 1a, under a glue-applying device 62, Fig. 2a, which prints a stripe 72, Fig. 25, of glue. The closure discs are then carried beneath a table 86, Fig. 1a, to which are delivered bags pushed by a conveyer 90 so that they register with the covers on to which they fall at the end of the table 86. The covers and bags are then pressed together by the conveyer 94, 98.
