Bookbinding. - In machines for binding separate book-sheets or sections, the sheets or sections 7, 13, Fig. 3, are fed between the edges of two juxtaposed adhesive strips x, y and pass there with between compressing-devices, the adjacent lateral edges of the sheets or sections being so spaced and guided that the inner faces of the strips are secured one to the other in the centres thereof and to the. sheets along their adjacent lateral edges. The sheets or sections are laid upon a table 1, Fig. 1, adjacent to upper and lower endless conveyer-bands 3, 4. The lower paper strip x coming from a gumming or gum-moistening device 5 enters at 6 beneath the sheet sections 7, 13 which are disposed between edge guides 8, 8<1> and 9, 9<1>, Fig. 2. The upper strip, coming from a gumming or moistening device 10 on the other side of the machine, is guided by a. shoe 12 provided with a toe which extends a short distance between the conveyerbands. Oscillating pushers 2 advance the sheets between the conveyer-bands, whereupon they are moved forwardly with the strips and simulta.- neously pressed by the bands. Upper and lower rollers r, r' may be provided to bear upon the bands and consolidate the binding. Single or folded sheets may be bound together in the machine.
