Delivery apparatus; pasting-apparatus ; signature gatherers. - In bookbinding-machines of the type wherein an end paper or sheet is secured to a folded book section or signature by adhesive applied by conveying one of them into contact with an adhesive-applying device and passing them together between pressing means, means are associated with a conveyer system for conveying the book section or signature to the adhesive-applying device and to a region below a superimposed stationary device supporting the end paper or sheet, further movement of the conveyer causing the end paper and book section to be carried together to the pressing device to ensure their adhesion. The machine, is duplicated to enable an operator to be positioned at each side thereof, one of them introducing sections which, after receiving an end paper on one side, are transferred to the second operator to receive the end paper for the other side. An endless band 5, Fig. 1, running longitudinally of the machine is provided with fingers 4 which project upwardly between spaced guiding and sheet-supporting bars and engage the rear edge of a book section placed thereon from a table 3. A line of paste is applied to an edge of the book section by the pasting roller 9<c> of any suitable pasting-device 8. The end paper is placed upon rails 10 disposed behind the pasting-devica and above the conveyer band, whereby it is engaged by the fingers 4 and carried with the book section between endless pressing-belts 14<a>, 14<b>. Jockey pulleys 15, 16 are provided for tensioning the pressing-belts, and the upper belt 14<a> is mounted upon a vertically adjustable frame 22 controlled by a hand-wheel driving vertical screwshafts. The machine is preferably driven by an electric motor 23, Fig. 2, connected by a belt 25 to a shaft 24 provided with duplicated clutch mechanism 26, 26<a> which may be operated by either of two linked treadles 27, 28 disposed on opposite sides of the machine.
