Abstract
281,020. Chalmers, T. A. Aug. 26, 1926. Tea, gathering; harvesting-machines. - For cutting tea plants a rotary cutter having blades 6 carried by a power-driven shaft 8 is mounted in a frame 10 pivoted at 11 to the front of a carriage either self-propelled or drawn along by a cable system. The carriage is supported upon endless tracks 3, and is shaped to bridge two or more rows of plants. A ledger blade 12 is fitted to co-operate with the rotary cutter and a crop box 14 is secured at the front of the machine. The cutter is maintained at the desired height by ropes 16 extending from a cross member 17 on the frame 10 and passing round winch drums 18 on a shaft 19 that is also provided with a drum 22 around which is wound a rope 23 the other end of which is passed round an electrically driven winch drum 24. Vanes 15 fitted on the rotary cutterdirect the cut crop into the box 14.
